As a parent of a child with a chronic autoimmune disease, I quickly realised that assessing our child’s health status and deciding on the appropriate course of treatments and medications is a complex and difficult task. Frequently, laboratory tests and other diagnostics offer only a partial view, requiring a trial-and-error approach to move forward. This situation appears to be widespread, with many members of our local support group encountering similar challenges.
I have often wondered whether the wealth of medical data collected could be used to facilitate more informed decision-making. That’s why I was particularly interested by the PARADISE project and very happy to join the patient advisory group. Leveraging robust data processing tools to aid in the decision-making process appears to be a promising application of these emerging technologies. Hopefully, in future, this could contribute another valuable piece to the puzzle of managing our child’s health.
Acknowledging that, like any new technology, there are numerous challenges and unanswered questions, I am optimistic that this project can succeed in creating a useful tool to help patients. It is my hope that my involvement in the project’s patient advisory group can lend a further patient perspective to the project and help in safeguarding patient interests.
